Start the adventure on the NSW south coast, stopping at the Cambewarra Mountains, Kangaroo Valley, Moss Vale and onto the central west. On the central west, explore the land of Indigenous history, colonial settlers, bushrangers and picturesque country.

 
 
 
 

Day 1: Apollo Sydney Branch to Cambewarra Mountains

Distance: 190km

Travel time: 2 hours

Balanced on the summit of the Cambewarra Ranges, the Cambewarra Mountain lookout showcases soaring vistas and extensive panoramas to both horizons. From the top, campers will witness views of Shoalhaven City, the Coolangatta Mountains, the Pigeon House Mountain, Point Perpendicular and the stunning Jervis Bay National Park.

Day 2: Cambewarra Mountains to Moss Vale

Distance: 59km

Travel time: 45 minutes

From birdwatching in wetlands to wine tasting, golfing and exploring galleries and antique stores, there is something for every camper in Moss Vale. A must-visit is the gourmet trail, featuring Mount Ashby Estate – a boutique vineyard with a cellar door and delightful café.

Day 3: Moss Vale to Bendalong

Distance: 106km

Travel time: 2 hours

Set on the magnificent jutting section of the south coast known as Red Point, Bendalong is every beach lover’s dream. The sleepy township provides adventure-packed surf beaches, with opportunities for fishing, swimming, SUPing and more. Nestled amongst tall eucalyptus, the Holiday Haven Caravan Park is the perfect spot to settle for those looking to spot native wildlife, with possums, kangaroos and even stingrays calling the park home.

Day 4: Bendalong to Kangaroo Valley

Distance: 91km

Travel time: 1 hour

As the name suggests, Kangaroo Valley is one of New South Wales must-visit villages, known for its spectacular wilderness, historic bridge, tea rooms and pies. It is also a popular destination for kayaking, canoeing, golf and wine tasting. Kayak or canoe along the Kangaroo River, drive less than 20km to Fitzroy Falls and Gerringong Falls or for a waterside picnic, visit Tallowa Dam – home to the largest fish lift of its kind in Australia.

Day 5: Kangaroo Valley to Canowindra

Distance: 343km

Travel time: 4 hours

Travel through time in Canowindra – known as ‘The Balloon Capital of Australia’ – and discover its old-world charm, gentle winds and open countryside. Witness the town from above on a hot air balloon tour or step into the shoes of a bushranger on Canowindra’s main street – Gaskill Street.

Day 6: Canowindra to Carcoar

Distance: 54km

Travel time: 40 minutes

Known as ‘The Town Time Forgot’, Carcoar is one of Australia’s most charming and well-preserved historic towns. Located just off the Mid-Western Highway, spend hours wandering the streets and exploring the beautifully preserved 19th-century buildings, walk up to the old railway station and tunnel and enjoy some crumbed cutlets or bangers and mash at the Royal Hotel Carcoar in the main street.

Day 7: Carcoar to Apollo Sydney Branch 

Distance: 250km

Travel time: 3 hours 30 minutes

En route back to Sydney, stop at the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park, home to the famous Three Sisters in Katoomba and appreciate the steep cliffs, eucalyptus forests, waterfalls and villages.
